I am sorry to say that, but if somebody asks me for a favour, especially regarding free photography of a random person(s), please understand that this is a favour I do, not something I should be terribly grateful for. I probably do it to strengthen my good connections in the city and community I live and have some more chance to meet new people (so I maaybe benefit from that). But in essence, it is a gift to you, as my good friend, that will cost me my time and effort.
Therefore, if you have to call that request off, please be so kind and just apologise for your change of plans. It is so easy.
I have been in two similar situations when I was asked to come and shoot something for free. It was not something that I benefit a lot from. I was inclined to help in both cases, because I thought people were in some kind of real need and not many people, myself included, can always pay for other people's time a commercial price. So some people do little miracles for me and I try to return that favour to them and also to other people, because not everyting is for money.
What people however did is said to me in a bossy manner, that, in essence (the bossy manner was very visible) "we found someone else so your services are not neeed", that sounded exactly as I was asking favour — from them(!) — to do that free photography of their subjects. But I do not know who these subjects are and none of these pictures will end up in my portfolio. I simply give out my time to help a friend. So I expect proper attitude when circtumstances change, not hiding behind facebook chat and evil-corporation-style answers "thank you for your interest but unfortunately...". There was no my interest at all. My interest is to jump on plane to Germany to shoot some Goth model or to join my cosplay friends in some experimental shooting involving hours of preparation. I also do no-questions-asked help for talented people who bring unique quality to collaboration - best cosplayers, musicians, sportsman.
They were damn polite and so much more reliable. Even if they have all the freedom and all the reasons in the world to call me dirt under their feet.
